A mobile app has replaced means of contraception

A smartphone app Natural Cycles, an electronic alternative to condoms and contraceptive means, has been found in the EU.

This simple program counts the time for fertilization and safe periods due to the collected user data.

Unlike the majority of similar apps that are in fact usual cycle calendars, Nature Cycles detects the changes in basal body temperature. The more often a user updates their personal information, the more accurately the app predicts cycle periods.

According to the researches, 93% of women who regularly updated the app in the safe days didn’t get pregnant. 22785 women took part in the experiment.

Natural Cycles has already been approved by the Federal Ministry of Health in Germany. The project also landed more than $30 mn. Among the investors, there also were Bonnier Growth Media and EQT Venture. The app is currently being certified in U. S. The number of its users has raised up to half a million.
